Case Study: Ms. Y is an 85-year old female you are caring for on a post-operative surgical unit.

Subjective: She complains of diffuse abdominal pain and distention.

Objective: She is post operative day 3. Her vital signs are within normal limits. She did get up with physio this morning for a brief walk in the hall, but returned to bed complaining of abdominal pain. She is on opioids for pain management. She is sitting in her hospital bed, wearing a hospital gown. The upper siderails are up. Her lunch tray is at her bedside, untouched, she states she is not hungry.

Questions: Your Task: Perform an appropriate focused abdominal assessment for this patient presenting with diffuse abdominal pain.
