Discussion 1: 1. Think about the parenting style of your parent or caregiver. Think about your adult traits and how consistent (or not) your outcomes were with the outcomes typically predicted for that parenting style? If they were consistent, or if not, what additional family influences had an impact on your adult traits? Consider ethic variations, social class variations, and family encounters with distressing situations.

2. Do you think the new generation of parents are more permissive than previous generations? More uninvolved (perhaps due to their own preoccupation with online activities)? State a position, and then make a prediction on how the trend will impact the generation of children growing up now.

Imagine you were designing an informational pamphlet for adolescents describing the risks and benefits of dating in adolescence. What information would your pamphlet contain?

Discussion 3: Watch this episode of According to Jim, Jim Almightly on Youtube. In this episode Jim thinks that he can design women better than the creator did. Many gender stereotypes are depicted and reinforced (and some are even abandoned) during this show. Keep track and write down all of the stereotypes for men and for women that are mentioned in the show. With your group, discuss and classify them into physical, sexual, personality, social, and emotional and discuss whether they are accurate, inaccurate, or an exaggeration of a true difference.
