Term Paper

The paper should be 5 -6 pages. You may refer to the Chicago Style guidelines (Author, Date format) for citing you references in this paper. If you are already familiar with APA or MLA you may use one of those instead.

Please use at least one peer-reviewed articles. These are articles published in periodicals. For example:American Anthropologist,American Journal of PhysicalAnthropology, Journal of the American Medical Associationwould be types of scholarly journals. Peers in the case of publications are people that have an expertise in the field in question and review the findings of others prior to publication. This differs from Wikipedia in that the editing done on that website is produced by whoever showed up most recently and fancies them self an ostensible expert. Wikipedia is not a reliable source to be referenced in a paper. In conjunction with the peer-reviewed/scholarly journal article, you are also welcome to reference course materials such as the lecture, video or news articles we've covered, and the textbook.

Pick the following options on which to write your paper.

A. Look at theOnline Mendelian Inheritance in Man website and find a genetic disease. Give its location [chromosome and arm (p or q], discuss the symptoms, prognosis and if there are any treatments for it. Also discuss the mode of inheritance, i.e. is it on the autosomes or X-linked, dominant or recessive. You may also discuss similar diseases, in some cases there can be diseases that are not inherited but produce the same or nearly identical manifestations.

Be sure to produce a well-organized paper with relevant content. The paper should open with a thesis statement or position on the subject in question. This first paragraph should also outline what the remainder of the paper will discuss. The subsequent paragraphs should contain a topic that relates to the thesis and expands in particular on that topic. Finally the concluding paragraph should restate in broad terms the paper's argument. 85 points

Please proof-read your paper for spelling and grammatical errors. The L.A. Mission Campus has a Learning Center located on the first floor of the library (LRC rm. 219) https://www.lamission.edu/learningcenter/. Avail yourself of these services, it often helps to have a fresh pair of eyes identify errors.

Please use 12 point font, in something similar to Arial, Calibri, Courier or Times New Roman. Please no fancy or bizarre fonts, I do not want to read an entire paper written in Comic Sans.

Remember to use Chicago Style author and date format for the citations and references cited (APA and MLA are also fine). Your margins should be about an inch. The 5-6 pages includes your references cited page and title page.

This is the author/date format within the text for a direct quote (it includes the page number):

"Just because I haven't put a lot of thought into this book doesn't mean you shouldn't" (Colbert2007, ix)
(FYI the ix is the page in the preface where the quote is found)

The reference citation for a book would be as follows:

Colbert, Steven. 2007. I Am America: And So Can You. New York: Grand Central Publishing

Paraphrasing without direct quote is done as follows:

Women, though excluded from Maidan protests, participated in other activities related to national sovereignty (Phillips 2014)

Reference citation for journal article would be as follows:

Phillips, Sarah D. 2014."The Women's Squad in Ukraine's Protests: Feminism, Nationalism, and Militarism on the Maidan." American Ethnologist 21: 414-426
