I had three people do a survey on how they view me two were co-workers and one was a friend outside of work. For the most part they all viewed me the same as I perceive myself. There was one person that viewed me as unpopular because I do things by myself. I rated as high on self-esteem and the other two people that did the survey perceived me as popular, outgoing, and positive. I do not know why I let the one person that does not see me the same bother me as much as I have. One day at work last week my new manager said I was negative. These comments are disruptive to me and are bring down my self-esteem. The thing that bothers me the most is I have not changed anything; I do not know why I am being perceived differently than before. I will have to use some interpersonal skills to cope with this issue. The skills that I will have to improve on are my nonverbal messages perhaps people are reading my actions more they are my words. If I smile more, increase eye contact, and body posture people will perceive me differently. Since I am aware how some people perceive me I will use the information that I received to improve myself. The people that have perceived me differently may not have all the facts about me, maybe they were two quick to judge me by the little bit of information that they have gathered. It is always best to listen to the person for more clues about them before judging them. A person should also be other-oriented so they understand where others are coming from before making snap judgment.
