1. You are expected to use on-line and off-line facilities to obtain :
• Academic literature to provide research evidence to support your answers.
• Examples from web sites which support your answers.
2. Your assignment should include at least six relevant references to academic literature (in addition to any references made to commercial websites). ASSIGNMENT TASK
Rethinking how MNEs use global teams, virtual collaboration and international assignments, have emerged as significant and immediate challenges in the effective management of international human resources in very recent times. Adapted from Caligiuri et al. (2020)
Discuss how external and internal factors may affect the staffing choices of MNEs.
You are tasked with highlighting and analysing some of the many challenges facing MNEs in navigating the way forward in volatile and uncertain times, in relation to the management of their international workforces.
You may wish to consider the impact of some of the following :
• Are there alternatives for developing future global leaders within MNEs e.g. PCNs, HCNs?
• Restrictions on movement of staff across international borders for short, medium, long-term opportunities.
• Changes in working arrangements e.g. working from home; virtual collaborations and assignments; inpatriation.
• Increased focus on employee health and well-being, by employers.
This is not an exhaustive list of suggestions.
Within your analysis, you must provide a number of relevant, organisation-based examples, to support theoretical arguments. The assignment must have a wide and visible application to industry, through the application of appropriate organisational examples. Failure to apply relevant organisational examples could result in a failure within the module assessment.
Students should be aware that this assignment requires the integration of the major themes of the module. Student skills such as researching materials, analysing, synthesising and critically evaluating the application of theory in practice will be assessed. A superior assignment will demonstrate relevant research skills, analysis and critical evaluation rather than just description.
