Max Weber is credited with "inventing" the modern theory of bureaucracies, how they operate, what they accomplish, what they do well, and what they do badly. Considering the difference between "formal rationality" versus "substantive rationality," think of an instance in your own dealings with a bureaucracy in which what was "formally rational" and correct turned out to be "substantively irrational" and deleterious for yourself. Analyze this event in the way that Weber would have were he alive today.
