Introduction To Hospitality And Tourism

Based on course content, please choose and research a hospitality career path. Students will present the tourism sector, company, career/job characteristics, job function etc. for thebusiness of their choice.

1. Provide an overview of your assignment. Students will provide a summary (overview) of the hospitality / tourism career path research project. Usually one or two paragraphs outlining your project and summarizing what was reported or achieved.

2. In this section of the project, identify the tourism sector in which you would like to work (i.e. Accommodation sector, Food and Beverage sector etc.)Research elements of this sector in relation to the Hospitality and Tourism industry in Canada and/or globally. Discuss the size of the sector, itseconomic importance to the industry in Canada, number of people employed, overall revenue generated, growthof this sector in relation to other sectors etc.

3. In this section of the project, identify a company in the sector you have selected (i.e. Accommodation sector - Four Seasons Hotels etc.). Research the history of the company from the founding to the present. Discuss the Corporate structure i.e. National or international markets/public or private ownership etc. Size of the company - number of outlets, employees, overall revenue etc. Describe what competition, either nationally or globally, your selected company may face operating in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry

4. Discuss the corporate culture of your selected company. What is the company philosophy towards its employees and clients? How does your selected company practice service concepts?

5. Describe the selected company's mission and vision statements. Based on the stated mission and vision statements, describe how the company is living up to its mission/vision statements

6. Identify some elements of both the Micro and Macro-environments that would influence the operation or performance of your selected company.

7. Research various occupations in this company. What would be your "dream job" in this company?Using Figure "A" belowoutline what you think are the skills required for this job. What are your strengths (best skills for this job)? What are the skills you would need to improve to do this job? job.

8. Give some reasons why you made this particular career choice. Your reasons can be personal / industry related / economic or a combination of factors.
