A human male and female couple with brown eyes discoverthat, in both their families, their fathers (with brown eyes) eachhad siblings with blue eyes. In this example, blue eyes is anautosomal recessive disorder. None of their grandparents had blueeyes. Assume that the blue eyes in both families were caused by mutations in the same gene, and that there were no new mutations within the pedigrees. Mothers are not carriers of mutations in the blue eye gene.
