Question

In a remote town, researchers have been studying a unique species of butterfly with vibrant wing colours. These colours are determined by a specific gene located on the X chromosome. They have identified three different colour variations: Red (XR), Blue (XB). and Green (X). The researchers begin studying their inheritance patterns and find important circumstances regarding the phenotypes of the butterflies: The Green wing colour gene exhibits partial dominance with Red, so if an individual has one XG allele and one XR allele, their wings will become an intermediate blend of Maroon; The Green and Blue wing colour genes are codominant, so when an individual carries both the XC and XB alleles their wings will display both Green and Blue spots (referred to as Multicolour). The Red colour gene is dominant over Blue.

Differentiate between partial dominance and codominance. Summarize all the possible genotypes and respective phenotypes for males and females of the butterfly species.
