There are a few different types of robberies and all are felonies. There is a difference between a robbery and a theft; in that of a robbery, the robber will takes something from the victim's presence or person, coercing or threatening the victim, uses violence or force, and places the victim in fear of serious and immediate bodily injury. Almost all robberies are considered to be a violent crime and punishment varies from state to state, but is generally punishable by a minimum of one year. Armed robberies generally are punishable with a minimum of 10 years and maximum of 20 years in prison (Mince-Didier, 2015).
