Due to global and domestic changes, correctional rehabilitation programs have changed between different models and framework to adapt to current times. One way the correctional program has adapted is through rehabilitation through animals. In the book Prison dog programs: renewal and rehabilitation in correctional facilities by Mary Jalongo, she discusses the importance of using prison dogs for rehabilitation, evidence supporting the effectiveness of prison dogs, and how to evaluate the outcomes of prison dog programs. In Jalongos research, she discovered the effectiveness of human-animal bonding and she discovered the best animal that would be fit for inmates which are dogs.
