Question

Imagine that you set up an experiment to study osmosis. You make five 'cells' from dialysis tubing and fill them each with a different concentration of sucrose (a sugar). The volume of solution you add to each 'cell' is the same. You measure the concentration of sucrose in moles by dividing the amount of sucrose by the volume of water that you dissolve it in. The numbers on the yellow 'cells' in the picture below thus show the concentration of sucrose. You then place each 'cell' into beakers that also contain sucrose, and also at different concentrations. For example, the beaker on the left contains 0.2 moles of sucrose and is placed in a beaker that contains 0.6 moles of sucrose. Which 'cell' would you predict to show the least change in mass at the end of the experiment? If a mass change occurs we expect that some movement of molecules has occured between the 'cell' and the solution in the beaker. Group of answer choices 'cell' in beaker 3 'cell' in beaker 5 'cell' in beaker 4 'cell' in beaker 1 'cell' in beaker 2.
