We will be learning about the endocrine system, as well as common conditions that involve this system. Hormones are chemical “messengers” that are secreted directly into the bloodstream by endocrine glands. The endocrine and nervous systems work together to help maintain a stable internal environment. The hypothalamus sends a chemical message or signal to the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland then sends chemical messages (hormones) that stimulate endocrine glands to secrete their hormones. Conditions that affect the endocrine system usually involve the oversecretion (hypersecretion) or undersecretion (hyposecretion) of hormones.

-Compare and contrast two conditions that involve the same endocrine gland.

-How are the two conditions selected related?

-What are the differences between these endocrine conditions?

-What hormones are involved with each condition chosen?

-What signs and symptoms are associated with the conditions chosen?

-How does the endocrine system disorders selected specifically affect other systems of the body?
