Reproductive system chapter : 28 -Anatomy & Physiology ( McKinley, 4e) McGraw-Hill,
QUESTION: Reproductive system
A) Outline the entire process of gametogenesis (include the stages of both nuclear divisions during meiosis) and identify what happens to the diploid condition as the process proceeds to making haploid gametes. Make sure you discuss Interphase and Cytokinesis, and their significance to this process (e.g., what happens during Interphase and Cytokinesis?).
B) Discuss the differences, if any, between autosomes and sex chromosomes. Why should the human male have to depend upon a much smaller Y chromosome (than his X chromosome?)
C) Why is every sperm and every egg genetic unique? Explain the cellular processes that make this a virtual certainty, and consider how many genes a human has and the possibility of crossing over. Does crossing over always take place in the same location?
D) Why is Prophase 1 so vital to the diversity of all sexually-reproducing species?
E) What is the function of Meiosis II? Is it similar to mitosis at this point? Explain your reasoning.
