QUESTION 1

The data set contains the anxiety scores (0 - 100) for a group of 50 female and 50 male patients. The patients undergo two kinds of treatment. For the first six weeks, they undergo treatment using medication and psychological counselling. During this time their levels of anxiety are measured via an inventory three times, during week 2, week 4 and week 6. The patients are then subjected to a "wash-out" period of three weeks during which time they receive no treatment. After the "wash-out" period, they undergo 6 weeks of treatment involving psychological counselling and relaxation exercises. During week 2, week 4 and week 6 of the new treatment period, their anxiety levels are again measured via the anxiety inventory.

i. Enter the above data into an SPSS data file. Use suitable names and labels for the variables.

ii. Disregarding the gender variable and using data for both Treatment 1 and Treatment 2, do a two-way within repeated measures ANOVA. For contrasts, compare across both treatments, the week 6 mean anxiety score with the mean of the combined week 2 and week 4 anxiety scores. Write an APA report of the ENTIRE repeated measures analysis.

iii. Selecting only males, is there a significant difference in mean anxiety scores between week 2 and week 4 under Treatment 1? Write an APA report of the results.

iv. Selecting only females, is there a significant difference in mean anxiety scores between week 2 and week 4 under Treatment 2? Write an APA report of the results.

v. Using ALL the variables, do a one-between and two within repeated measures ANOVA. The output should include interaction graphs together with a full APA Report. Use CONTRASTS of your own choosing.
