Case study

Mr. Smith is 76 years of age and lives alone. He has a large house and is socially isolated. He doesn't like socializing. He has recently been diagnosed with dementia. There is evidence that he does not eat properly. Often, meals consist of a cup of tea and toast. And he was reluctant to upwash dishes, clothes, and unopened mail. He has smoked his entire adult life and often smoked inside the house. He has been proposed to a nursing home to give his recent dementia diagnosis and his pre-existing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He has two recent admissions to the hospital for an exacerbation of COPD. Mr. Smith has an appointment at the hospital to assess his lung function and he also has another appointment with a geriatrician scheduled for one month's time. Mr. Smith does not want to attend this appointment.

Explain how you would assist Mr. Smith to participate in health education programs relevant to his needs. In your response, include how your suggestions might meet workplace guidelines (for example WHS considerations, any ethical considerations for example client rights).
