The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test is the most widely used test to detect prostate cancer. The PSA marker is a protease that is manufactured specifically in the prostate gland. Cancer in the prostate gland will cause PSA to be expelled into the bloodstream. How could a researcher devise a test to detect this prostate-specific protease in the lab?
