Assessment task - Development of a draft research proposal
Instructions:
1. Study Title
(Develop a clear statement reflective of the proposed topic for an original research study; include the study design in the title (or sub-title)
2. Introduction (≈ 200-300 words)
(Provide a general introduction to the topic; include any relevant practice context (e.g. your professional role, interest in the area); note the significance / importance of the topic area from a practice &/or research perspective)
3. Background (≈ 700-1100 words)
(Provide a summary of the relevant literature / evidence base, including an explicit search strategy, clear evidence of critique and synthesis of 6-10 studies relevant to your proposal topic)
4. Study Aim
(Provide a clear, specific statement and include any sub-elements (if appropriate); the aim could be in a question or declarative (study objective) format)
5. Proposed Methods (≈ 400-500 words)
(Provide a beginning description of your proposed methods, including: )
Design
(Describe the specific design and provide a rationale for why this design is most appropriate to address the topic of interest compared to other possible designs)
Sample
(Provide an initial description, including a justification for why your selected sampling approach is most appropriate; you can also include why other methods would not be feasible or appropriate)
Data collection
(Provide an initial description, including a justification for why your data collection approach is most appropriate; you can also include why other methods would not be feasible or appropriate)
References (use correct Harvard UTS style, including punctuation)

• Length:
• A maximum of 8 text pages (excluding the reference list)
• use Arial, Calibra, Cambria or Times New Roman font style
• 12-point font size
• At least 1.5 line spacing and 2.5 cm page margins
• Portrait page orientation.
