Purpose of the assessment - Students should be able to demonstrate their achievements in the following unit learning outcomes:
Articulate major research methodologies and paradigms in constructing research project.
Design appropriate research framework in problem formulation, literature review, design, and validation of hypothesis.
Assemble selected research tools and methodologies that satisfy the research objectives and the design goals

Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to help you begin the research process by developing a draft research method design report. This report will serve as a foundation for your final research project. The key focus is on selecting a relevant, specific, and researchable topic and clearly defining the methods you intend to use in your study.
The Method Design Report (draft) must be directly aligned with the research topic selected by each student in MR601.
You will need to select a research topic that aligns with your stream (Business or IT) and ensure it is focused enough to be explored in depth. You can use generative AI tools ethically to help you brainstorm potential research topics. However, the final selection of the topic must be original, and you must ensure the content is your own (no copying and pasting). You must choose a research topic relevant to your area of specialization:
Master of Business Research students: Your topic must relate to fields such as marketing, management, finance, human resources, supply chain, innovation, entrepreneurship, or other business domains.
Master of IT Research students: Your topic should relate to IT domains such as cybersecurity, data analytics, AI and machine learning, system design, information systems, software development, digital transformation, or blockchain, among others.
Report Structure & Guidelines:
Your Draft Research Method Design Report must be clearly structured into the following sections. Each section contributes to your final grade. Submit the report (2500 words) on Moodle.

Research Topic Selection & Justification (600 words):
Choose a research topic relevant to the Business or IT domain.
Your topic should be specific, researchable, and significant to current trends or industry issues.
Explain why you selected this topic, its relevance, and the specific gap in research that your study aims to address.
You may use generative AI tools to help you brainstorm ideas, but the topic you choose must be your own. Be sure to state why you find this topic interesting and important.
Literature Review Summary (500 words):
Provide a brief summary of the literature relevant to your selected research topic in MR601. Focus on 5 to 7 recent, peer-reviewed articles that address various aspects of the topic.
Identify the gaps or limitations in existing research that your study could help address.
Ensure the review is critical rather than merely descriptive, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of previous studies.
Research Questions, Hypotheses, Aim and Objectives (500 words):
Based on the literature review and the topic you selected, formulate your research questions. These should guide the investigation and be clear, specific, and focused on the problem you're addressing.
If your research involves hypotheses, provide one or more hypotheses that logically stem from your research questions. Write your research aim and list the related objectives.
Clearly explain how your questions and hypotheses align with the gaps identified in the literature review.
Research Methodology & Justification (600 words):
Choose an appropriate research methodology (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods). Justify why this methodology is appropriate for your research questions.
Outline your approach to data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews, experiments, secondary data) and how it will help answer your research questions.
Discuss the ethical considerations related to your research, such as data privacy, informed consent, and how you will ensure data security.
Conclusion (200 words):
Provide a brief summary of the main points of your report, reiterating the significance of your research topic, questions, methodology, and ethical considerations.
