Question: During Stage 4, you will develop your Action plan, using the guidance in the Reddington and Bonham text, Chapter 4, and Stage 4 as outlined in the Appendix Sections A through E on page 257.
Pay particular attention in Section A to the identification of resources and cost projections, as funding for any criminal justice program or policy depends on available resources. Create a specific budget, including line items and break-downs to illustrate the components of your final figure. For example, if a line item is "salaries," break down the total figure to state the actual number of staff and salary for each. It is important to explain how you arrived at the figure. For example, if you are developing a program in a state, do online research to project salaries for similar positions and explain the resource and method you used. For Section B, do not assume that resources will be available. Research particular grants and other types of funding available for your type of program. Many grants are considered to be for start-up funding, and applications must explain the plan for ongoing funding. Explain how you will plan for ongoing funding. If it will require an appropriation from the legislature, explain how you plan to accomplish that. If it is a reallocation of funds, explain where the funding will come from and how you plan to accomplish the reallocation. You might consider funding opportunities from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, or your state's grant provider.
For Section C, you will create a Gantt chart. Refer to the Reddington and Bonham text for guidance. There are also several examples in this week's Content area. View the Gantt Chart as a step-by-step map showing how your program will be implemented. Number your steps, and put them in chronological order. Then designate the timing of that step. The chart provides the whole picture of your program implementation.
In Section D, you will design your method for monitoring staff performance with a detailed plan.
In Section E, you will continue to develop your plan to build support, including responses to possible resistance.
