Purpose
Synthesize knowledge from the literature to develop strategies that improve a particular issue in your specialty practice.
Task details
Identify a clinical issue/situation you have reflected upon that requires improvement.
Students need to identify a clinical issue that requires improvement in their clinical area of practice. It is not about identifying a general clinical issue that could occur in any clinical setting but rather specific to their area of practice. This should be backed up by any audit results conducted in their area/discussion with NUM or quality person on the unit/ observations and so on.
As per assignment criteria the student will formulate a reflective improvement plan on an issue they have identified in their specialty practice that requires improvement. It was not expected to work on personal area of improvement in this assignment but rather to identify an issue in their specialty practice that requires improvement.
The students need to state the objectives of this assignment, conduct a critical review of the literature, and synthesize contemporary knowledge about reflective practice to develop strategies that will improve their professional practice. When undertaking the literature review, students may refer to resources related to defining research objectives and evidence-based inquiry.
Identify a reflective model/theory you are going to utilise in this plan.
Students need to identify a reflective model/theory that you are going to utilise in this plan. It is not merely a statement/description that you will use this or that model, but rather they have to utilise those model while performing this reflective assignment.
Students will formulate a reflective improvement plan on an issue they have identified in their specialty practice that requires improvement. Identifying a few improvement strategies is not what this assignment is asking for but rather, students have to work out how they will incorporate these identified improvement strategies in their area of practice. They have to tailor an improvement plan on how to implement these improvement strategies in their area of clinical practice.
Synthesise the identified relevant literature into a coherent and logical discussion paper about what is known on the topic and what strategies you have identified to improve the specialty practice.
Conduct a critical literature review utilising at least 12 refereed journal articles using key terms, and appropriate search engines to assist in finding supporting evidence. These references must be ≤ 10 years old. Students may also benefit from reviewing guidance on research approaches when evaluating the quality of evidence.
