Assignment - My Profile
Unit Learning Objectives
1: Develop a personal action plan within the context of 21 century career opportunities.
2: Communicate effectively in oral, written and visual forms for different purposes and audiences.
3: Develop skills and attributes to work effectively as a team member.
Description / Requirements
In a dynamic, global and technology driven business environment having a well-developed professional profile that clearly demonstrates you have the industry required skills and capabilities and reflects your personal brand is imperative.
Using the insights developed from Assignment 1, each team member will create their Action Plan, develop their online professional profile and create a ‘one minute' video. Teams will provide support and critiques in this process. You will also review the performance of your team and present a reflective report on your learnings and the teamwork of the group.
The remaining assessment in this unit (Assignment 3) builds on this knowledge and requires students to prepare a job application and participate in a mock interview (Assignment 3). All three assessments in this unit are designed to give students the skills needed to be career ready in a changing and dynamic employment market. This is consistent with the Unit Learning Objectives and Deakin College Transitional Attributes.
Task 1: Form a Team
Each team will comprise 3-4 members. Teams must be finalised by the end of Week 5. Your team will provide support, assistance and critiques.
Please Note:
• Your team must be formed within the seminar in which you are enrolled. You cannot form a team in a seminar in which you are not enrolled; no cross-seminar teams will beallowed.
• If you do not form a team by Week 5 you will complete Assignment 2 as an individual and will forfeit the marks for teamwork in Assignment 2. This may also have an impact on your ability to successfully complete Assignment 3.
• All teams must complete a team contract and submit it to their lecturer by the end of Week 5.
• From Weeks 5 to 7 inclusive, you will provide constructive feedback to your team members to help them develop and improve their Action Plan, ‘one-minute' video and their Competency Profile.
• You must provide your team members with feedback and critiques. This can be via email, meeting logs, notes, etc. Please note that Facebook is not a secure site and all material posted on Facebook, is the property of Facebook. You must keep a record of the feedback you provide to your team members and the feedback that you receive. This must be included in your report. You also must complete the team peer assessment form and include this in your report. See Section 4.
TASK 2: The Assignment
Assignment 2: My Profile
This assessment is comprised of five (5) key sections of content that must be addressed. In addition, this is a business report and therefore must be formatted according to the criteria set out in Section 6 of this report.
Section 1: Introduction
Suggested word count: 200 words (approximately)
Section 2: My Action Plan
Suggested word count: 300 words (approximately)
Create an action plan for the next 12 months to develop or improve the skills and experiences identified in Assignment 1.
In this section you must:
1. Present your action plan in a table. We recommend you develop three (3) meaningful goals. Your action plan must show the soft and technical skills you will develop over the next 12 months. Your goals must be SMART-F and be developed from the Gaps you identified in Assignment 1.
2. Reflect on why you chose these specific actions, the changes that you made based on the feedback from your team members, and how the new changes will help you achieve your employment goals.
3. A copy of your Gap analysis from Assignment 1 must be included in the appendices.
Please note: Action Plans will be discussed in the Week 3 class.
Section 3: My Professional Brand
This section of your report is comprised of three (4) parts. Suggested word count and references are listed in each part.
My Competency Profile
Create your Competency Profile. The Competency Profile contains information needed for an online professional profile. Note that your profile will not be placed online for this assessment. Refer to the Assignment 2 Resources for a template.
You must include in your profile:
• A professional style photograph.
• A summary statement that includes your area of study, and experiences and interests relevant to your career goals.
• Information about paid work experience: provide details of employment, key achievements, and the skills and capabilities you have developed.
• Volunteer activities and other relevant experience (if available) highlighting the key achievements, skills and capabilities you have developed. Please note: if you do not have anything to include in this section you must critically consider the impact this will have on achieving your employment goals and consider adding this to your Action Plan.
• Relevant Achievements.
Your profile must be tailored to a professional audience (appropriate language and relevant examples for employers to read). Please note that correct spelling and grammar are critical. Aim for short, clear sentences instead of long complicated explanations.
You must provide your Competency Profile in your appendices in MS WORD format.
Networks
You must demonstrate your networks on the Networking Forum on Moodle and provide evidence of:
• Network connections (connect with students in your team, class, other classes)
• Contributions to your network (post an article you have sourced or written).
In this section you must:
• Post a comment in this forum. Write a brief comment about your area of study and broader interests relevant to your career goals.
• Reply to at least two posts from other students.
You must provide screenshots of your posts in your appendices as evidence of your networking contributions.
One Minute Video
Create a 60 second (+/- 10 seconds) video profile. The video is designed to convey yourself to your future potential employers. You need to answer the following questions:
• Which area you are studying (your diploma) and why you are interested in that area?
• What are your career goals (include a description)?
• What experiences do you have that show how you apply what you are learning in your diploma?
• What experiences do you have that show your passions or unique skills/awards?
Please note that you are to film and edit this video yourself. Once your video is edited, upload it to DeakinAir, then email your video link to one of your team members and ask them to test it. If your team member cannot access the video then the person marking your assignment will not be able to access the video and your video will not be marked.
My Professional Brand Reflection
Suggested word count: 400 words (approximately). Minimum number of references: 2
Analyse the benefits of developing an online professional profile, how you might gain value from having an online profile (e.g. LinkedIn), and your experience of creating a video. Analyse the feedback and value you received from your team members on your Competency Profile and video and the changes you implemented following the feedback. You may use screenshots from your profile to illustrate your key points.
Suitable methods for addressing this section will be covered in the Weeks 5, 6 and 7 classes.
Section 4: My Team
Suggested word count: 400 words (approximately). Minimum number of references: 3
Analyse your experience working with your team members. In your analysis you should cover the things that worked well, the things that needed improvement, the team dynamics and the things that you will change when working in teams in the future (i.e. Assignment 3). Also, you will need to analyse your role as a team member, your teamwork style (see Cottrell 2015, pp.139-142) and how you contribute to the team (400 words). Use references to support your analysis.
Review your team members' contribution using the Peer Review Form included in the Assignment 2 resources (50-100 words per person, not included in the word count).
In your appendices you must include:
• Feedback and critiques received from team members. Names and dates must be included. Screenshots of emails or posts are acceptable.
• Feedback and critiques you provided to your team members. Names and dates must be included. Screenshots of emails or posts are acceptable.
• Team Contract.
Section 5: Conclusion
Suggested word count: 200 words (approximately).
This is the end of the written part of this assessment item. The information you have gathered and analysed in this report will form the basis for Assignment 3: My Application. Please see Section 6 for important presentation and formatting instructions.

• Include all sources that have been referred to in this report.
