For this assignment you are asked to challenge yourself to break a social norm. In essence, you are instructed to knowingly be deviant and "explain" about your experience. Norms in society exist to help society run smoothly. We don't think about them, we simply follow them. We only become conscious of them when we accidently break one. When someone doesn't follow the norm people around them are often caught off-guard, their reactions can be as subtle as a smile or frown, or more outward and overt. For this reason you must only break a folkway (an informal norm) - something as mundane as riding in an elevator can be used for this exercise.
Can you explain what the social norm is (the folkway that you are breaking) along with how you are going to break it. For example, if you "explain" about breaking a norm in the elevator be sure to state what the expected - "normal" - behavior is (explain the norm) and then explain how you changed that (how you broke the norm).
