Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment
Assignment Title - Evaluate different types of construction information in the context of diverse project typesand Develop construction drawings, details, schedules & specifications of a given construction project.
The submission is comprised of two parts:
• Construction Information; to include:
o Site plan (1:500 or 1:1000)
o Floor plan (1:50 or 1:100)
o Elevations (1:50 or 1:100)
o Section (1:20)
o Detail(s) (1:5)
o Door and window schedules
o Outline bill of quantities
o Schedule of works
All drawings are to be on a minimum sheet size of A3. They should include a title block, showing project information, and be numbered using an industry standard.
Drawings should be produced using an industry standard CAD software package. BIM software may be used, but is not required.
Rationale Statement - a brief justification (minimum of 1,000 words) of your decision for producing specific information, comparing the choices you have made with other potential information types.
Learning Outcome 1: Evaluate different types of construction information in the context of diverse project types.

Assignment Brief: Your employer, a medium-sized general contractor, has been commissioned to design and build a small building in a local industrial park The design team within the company has prepared a set of outline design drawings, which provide general information about the proposed building, site and form.
You are tasked with the responsibility of preparing the construction information package that will allow the construction team to build the project. The package of information required includes the following:
• Site plan
• Floor plan
• Elevations
• Section/Details
• Door and window schedules
• Outline bill of quantities
• Schedule of works
Accompanying the construction information package, your employer wishes to understand your reasons for the drawings, specification and schedules that you have produced.
• Work submitted for assessment MUST be accompanied by the complete assignment brief and assignment form with all parts completed and submitted via Turnitin.
• Work will be marked and returned as soon as possible - normally within four weeks.
• Where a Pass grading criterion has not been fully achieved on first submission, re-submissions to gain that criterion will be permitted provided:
- The initial submission was made on time.
- The initial submission was a reasonable attempt at the task.
- The grading criterion is not concerned with time management.
