Task 1: Inquiry-based task (2500 words). Procedure
Critical inquiry is a process that can improve the understanding of teachers about specific areas of professional practice by undertaking a clearly focussed study. You will develop and conduct a project and produce a report about your chosen area of educational leadership and or management. Your inquiry will include seeking permission to observe a professional whose work is in the area of your chosen aspect of professional leadership or management. This will be supported with a review of current scholarly literature on your topic. Apply the following procedures:
Introduction:
Select an area of your professional leadership and / or management that you want to investigate;
Clearly articulate the specific focus of your inquiry;
Explain your rationale for your inquiry;
Discuss why this is important to you;
Articulate why this is important to quality education services;
Explain how you plan to investigate the topic and the role of the professional person you will observe.
Review of literature: Identify the major topics involved in your study and perform a literature search to find relevant, scholarly literature. Discuss at least 8 scholarly, academic articles. Data analysis and findings:
Analyse and present the evidence you have collected about the significant aspects of your chosen area of management or leadership gained whilst ‘shadowing' the person you observed in their professional role, showing;
The key areas of responsibility they hold;
The typical duties they carry out;
The professional skills they used;
Aspects of their knowledge and skills that appeared most significant.
Outline the findings from your observations and support with scholarly literature.
Discussion:
Critically reflect on the findings from your project;
Discuss the implications for practice;
Discuss how this research has informed your understandings and how these could shape your practice in the context of your topic.
Support your discussions with scholarly, referenced literature.
Accurate grammar, spelling, punctuation and referencing throughout.
Task 2: Leadership
From your project findings, imagine that you are seeking a person to fill a vacancy for a role similar to that which you have studied during your shadowing experience. Step 1: Prepare an advertisement for the hypothetical position. Include the following:
Job title
The key components of the role;
Qualifications and experience necessary;
Qualities and characteristics required for the role.
Step 2: Write an application letter for the hypothetical role. Imagine that you've read the advertisement and it's your dream career opportunity. In your application, consider the following:
The purpose of your letter and an introduction to yourself;
Why you want the position;
What you can bring to the position: your qualities, characteristics, qualifications and experience;
Your vision for the role, should you be successful Correct, accurate grammar and spelling are essential.
