Submit a written report with a word count of 1300-1500 words, using at least 5 scholarly sources (IN ADDITION to the required documentary and the community services sector reports). Scholarly sources are books, book chapters and peer reviewed journal articles. Use ProQuest and/or other databases to help you find journal articles. Refer to the "How to write a report' resources in the assessment link. Use APA 7 Referencing.
Drawing on information detailed in the documentary, select ONE of the case studies/stories in the SBS documentary. Conduct further research, describe the effects of poverty in Australia. In your essay, address the following points:
• Using the two reports above, and the selected ‘case study/story', explain the financial, social, economic, health and relationship issues experienced by people in poverty
• Explain and analyse the interrelationship between poverty, power and disempowerment.
• Explain and analyse the interrelationship between poverty, welfare and equity
• Identify community sector agencies and resources in Australia that offer support, advocacy and interventions to people in poverty. Essay -Self Reflection based on in-class role plays
Overview: Students will progressively develop communication micro-skills and gain valuable feedback from their peers over the 12 week course. This feedback will be used to help students reflect on their emerging skills in a self-reflective essay.
Written Self-reflection Essay:
Students are required to write a self-reflective essay in light of the skills learned over the Trimester which will incorporate feedback received from peers over the course of the Trimester.
The student should reflect on their use of micro-skills, including active listening skills, open and closed questions, reflection of content, reflection of feeling as well as nonverbal communication skills.
Although there is no specific format, some questions have been provided below to help generate the response. This list is not exhaustive, and the essay may include other meaningful insights in accordance with the student's individual experience.
· Have the course materials and role play activities led to personal development and an increase in your communication skills? Reflect on the feedback you received over the Trimester - is there evidence of growth and development?
· If you felt nervous and uncomfortable during the role plays, what was your reaction to this and what did you do to help yourself overcome these feelings?
