Assignment - Beam Reactions
Objective:
Develop a spreadsheet that computes the reactions, magnitudes and directions, of a double overhanging beam subject to concentrated and distributed loads, as per the figure.
Variables:
• L total beam length, m
• LA location RA from left. m
• LB location RB from left, m
• Fl concentrated load 1. N
• X1 location Ft measured from left end
• F2 and X2 - similar
• F3 and X3 - similar
o The calculation can be easily extended to more concentrated loads
o The concentrated loads can be acting downwards or upwards (+ or -)
• U1 uniform distributed load 1, N/m
• D1L beginning of UD1 from left end
• D1R end of UD1 from left end
• U2, D2L and D2R - similar
o The calculation can be easily extended to more UID loads
Results:
• Reaction RA - magnitude and direction (up or down)
• Reaction RB - magnitude and direction
