ASSIGNMENT: Health Education Narrated PowerPoint
Purpose: This assessment task will allow students to demonstrate an understanding and empathy towards the complexity of modifiable risk factor behaviour alteration for patient with chronic illness and a disability. This assignment will develop students' ability to identify factors which inhibit independence and diminish quality of life, require consideration of issues that inform behaviour, and advocate practical strategies for modification.
Students will choose from one of two case studies that display multiple modifiable risks, and then can then choose ONE risk factor to develop a narrated PowerPoint on behaviour change, informed by a health behaviour theory Appropriate evidence-based literature must be used to support your presentation.
Each presentation MUST follow this format:
1. Slide One: Title slide. State your name, student number, case study (Liam or Cassie), and chosen modifiable risk factor.
2. Slide Two: Concisely summarise the case study and define the chosen modifiable risk factor behaviour.
3. Slide Three: Outline how the risk factor, if left unchanged, may impact on the disability outlined in the case study (i.e. pathophysiology), and how further decline/loss of independence may impact on the persons life, considering their personal circumstances.
4. Slide Four: Identify a health behaviour theory that could be used as the basis for an intervention to modify that behaviour (such as, but not limited to: health belief model, theory of planned behaviour, transtheoretical model, health promotion model). Concisely outline the theory, and how you, as the RN, would encourage behaviour change using this theory.
5. Slide Five: Outline and justify one (1) innovative and practical strategy that can be implemented at home by the person in the case study to encourage risk factor behaviour modification, why it is a relevant strategy for the case study, and what the RN's role will be within this strategy.
6. Slide Six: Outline and justify one (1) appropriate (real) service/support/group in your area able to assist. Include a brief description of the service (relevant to the clinician, not the consumer), why this service will assist, and what the RN's role will be within this strategy.
7. Slide Seven: Reference slide one
8. Slight Eight: Reference slide two (if needed)
