Assessment - Role Play and Case Conceptualisation
To complete this assessment item successfully you are required to complete:
PART A: a 15-minute live counselling session with a peer, conducted via Zoom.
PART B: a written case conceptualisation informed by the information collected in the counselling session.
Task instructions Part A:
Instructions for Skills demonstration
• You are required to provide a counselling session from a trauma-informed perspective and staged intervention perspective.
• From a staged intervention perspective, the objectives of the first session are to build rapport, establish safety and assist the client in gaining control over trauma symptoms.
• You are required to:
1. Use basic micro-skills to build rapport with your client and establish safety
2. Identify key symptoms of trauma
3. Explore the impact of trauma at multiple levels (e.g., cognitive - meaning /making, emotional, behavioural, physiological, relational)
4. Explore the client's personal strengths and resources (e.g., coping strategies).
5. Assist the client in using healthier coping strategies where applicable
Instructions for playing the role of the client:
• You are required to work with a peer (acting as the "client") to complete this part of the assessment.
• Your peer is required to use one of the three case studies provided when playing the role of the client. The case studies illustrate individuals that experienced common traumatic events:
(a) a car accident survivor
(b) a young refugee that relocated to a new country.
(c) a domestic violence survivor.
• Although the peer that plays the role of a client selects the topic to talk about, it is important to NOT script the interaction.
Task instructions Part B:
You are required to develop a brief case conceptualisation rapport. The word limit is 750 words. Using bullet points in this assessment is acceptable.
• Provide brief and concise responses.
• You are required to use APA 7th style for referencing some of the main concepts you refer to. You may wish to draw upon models or theories taught in the prerequisite units. Get online assignment help services Now!
• If the client did not share specific information related to a particular factor, you are required to provide your own hypothesis based on the information collected in the session (e.g., My hypothesis based on ...., is ....).
• You are required to use the following table for developing your case conceptualisation:
What are some of the client's vulnerability areas that predispose them to develop mental health problems?
What happened for the client and how did it affect them?)
Why does the presenting problem continue? Are there any chronic issues going on?)
What personal strengths or resources does the client have that assists them in keeping well?
