Consider a hot-air balloon which is comprised of a basket, miscellaneous ropes, a burner, a fuel tank and, of course, the balloon. The basket, ropes, burner and fuel tank together have a mass of 80 kg. The balloon will be used at a location where the ambient pressure and temperature are 95 kPa and 15°C, respectively, and is intended to carry three people with a total mass of 215 kg. Determine the minimum total cost of the fabric required to make the balloon for this particular application. Note that the balloon fabric is blue high strength nylon that costs $6.50 per square yard, it has a mass of 20 grams per square meter and a maximum operating temperature of 100°C. (You can assume that the ambient air and the air inside the balloon can be accurately described by the ideal gas equation of state, i.e., p=dRT.) (d=density).
