To prevent weeds from growing in a clean earthen-lined canal, it is recommended that the velocity be no less than 2.5 ft/s. For the symmetrical canal shown in Fig. P10.88, determine the minimum slope needed.

The smooth, concrete-lined, symmetrical channel shown in Video V10.7 and Fig. P10.88 carries water from the silt-laden Colorado River. If the velocity must be 4.0 ft/s to prevent the silt from settling out (and eventually clogging the channel), determine the minimum slope needed.
