A total condenser is to be designed for condensing saturated 2-butanol vapor to form saturated 2-butanol liquid at 1 atm at the rate of 0.72 kmol/h. The saturation temperature of 2-butanol vapor at 1 atm is 99.6C. Cooling water at 25C and 1 atm is available, and the maximum temperature rise of the cooling water is limited to 20C. Given that the molar heat capacity of water at 1 atm (Cp) is 18.0 cal/(mol.K), the latent heat of condensation of 2-butanol vapor is -9.783 kcal/mol and the applicable overall heat transfer coefficient (U) is 120 kcal/(h.m2.C), determine the minimum molar flow rate of the cooling water (in kmol/h) and the necessary heat transfer area for the total condenser (in m2).
