The wheel of a crane lift is rolling on a flat rail. The radius of the wheel is 4 in, the contact length and force are 2.5 in and 1 ton respectively, and E = 30 MPa and ν = 0.3 for both parts. Determine (a) the maximum contact pressure, (b) the width of the contact area.
