A piston-cylinder device initially contains 1.11-kg saturated liquid water at 200 degree C. Now heat is transferred to the water until the volume quadruples and the cylinder contains saturated vapor only. Determine (a) the volume of the tank, (b) the final temperature and pressure, and (c) the internal energy change of the water.

Are these absolute pressures or gage pressures : Express 310 kPa in mm-Hg (millimetres of mercury). (Calculate this using SGHg = 13.6.) Blood pressure that is below about 120/80 mm-Hg is often considered normal. What do these two numbers indicate? Are these absolute pressures or gage pressures?
Calculate the absolute pressure at this depth : A submarine is cruising at a depth of 250 m below the surface of the water (about the height of 70-floor skyscraper). Taking SGsea-water = 1.03, calculate the absolute pressure at this depth, in Pa. How many times greater than one atmospheric pressur..
Mechanical power that is converted to thermal energy : Water is pumped from a lower reservoir to a higher reservoir by a pump that provides 23kW of shaft power. The free surface of the upper reservoir is 46m higher than that of the lower reservoir. If the flow rater of water is measured to be 0.03m^3/s d..

Determine the final temperature and the initial pressure : 2.49 kg of R-134a refrigerant fill a .26098 m^3 rigid container at an initial temperature of -26°C. The container is then heated until the pressure is 200 kPa. Determine (a) the final temperature and (b) the initial pressure.
How large is the container : A 1.9-kg mass of helium is maintained at 250kPa and 26 degrees Celsius in a rigid container. How large is the container in m^3?
Rigid tank contains water in equilibrium at a temperature : A closed rigid tank contains water in equilibrium at a temperature of 225 °C and a quality of 0.35 (35%). The mass of the liquid water present is 0.25 kg. What phases are present in the system? (Give justification) What is the mass of vapor that is p..
