Two refrigerators are arranged in series. One of them receives 300 kJ/cycle from a reservoir at 300 K. The heat rejection from this refrigerator serves as the heat input to the second refrigerator which delivers 1000 kJ/cycle of heat output to a reservoir at 1000 K. The two refrigerators have the same coefficients of performance. (a) Determine the heat exchange between the first to the second cycle (kJ/cycle) that occurs at the intermediate temperature. (b) What is the coefficient of performance of each refrigerator? (c) Compute the work required (kJ/cycle) to operate each refrigerator.
