Composite Materials Assignment -
Submit a computer typed word document with your detailed answers and steps along with any MATLAB .m files and ANSYS .db files used.
Problem Statement: A 25 cm x 25 cm structural composite with a stacking sequence of [45o/0o/-45o/90o] is subjected to tensile loading of 100 MPa in the y-direction. Unidirectional lamina properties are E1 = 161 GPa, E2 = 9 GPa, ν12 = 0.26, and G12 = 6.1 GPa. The subscripts 1 and 2 designate longitudinal (fiber direction) and transverse (perpendicular to fiber direction), respectively. All four layers in this structural composite have a thickness 0.16 mm.
Part 1: Using FEA, determine the displacement, strain and stress fields. (Using Ansys APDL)
Part 2: Using analytical approach, determine the global equivalent orthotropic properties for this structural composite: Ex, Ey, vxy and Gxy.
Part 3: Run another FEA model, but now using the global equivalent orthotropic properties determined in Part 2. (Using Ansys APDL).
Part 4: Compare the results of the FEA models of Part 1 and Part 3. Comment and elaborate on any dependencies between the full model in Part 1 and the idealized model in Part 3.
Note - Part 2 is either by using MATLAB or manually using the matrices.
