For this assignment, you are to follow the directions to fill out a Feelings template. Then, you will read two articles involving encouragement and write a 2 page response.

Nothing But Feelings

Using the Nothing But Feelings Template:

Complete the template's list with at least seven feeling words under each of the five core feeling categories (happy, sad, angry, lonely, and scared).

Determine and include an additional five ambivalent or mixed feelings (or phrases) not already listed as examples in the template. Provide a description of what you have heard people say.

Identify five metaphor statements and the basic core feelings that underlie each (i.e., happy, sad, angry, scared, and lonely). Write a brief justification as to why you sense this core feeling would underlie the metaphor.

Nothing But Feelings Template

1. Complete the template’s list with at least seven feeling words under each of the five core feeling categories listing the less intense expression on the top to the most intense feeling toward the bottom.

2. Determine and include an additional five "ambivalent or mixed feelings" (or phrases). Provide a description you have heard people say.

For Example: Unsure –Scared

I am unsure – I have experienced being unsure about something such as, quitting my job. I am really saying that I am “scared” of the repercussions that they come with. 

3. Identify five metaphor statements and the basic core feelings that underlines each (i.e. happy, sad, angry, scared, lonely). Write a brief justification as to why you sense this core feeling would underlie the metaphor.

For Example:

“I Feel like I could explode” – This is generally a metaphor for anger. The release of this pent-up emotion could feel like an explosion of energy. The core feeling word would be “Angry.” (Angry)

“Higher than a kite” – This is an expression of happiness. It is interesting to me that metaphors for happiness involve elevation or heights, while metaphors of sadness are all expressed as down or low. The core feeling word would be “Happy.” (Happy)
