Problem

Bacteria are very diverse, even though they share some basic features like being single-celled, lacking a nucleus, and usually having a cell wall, which places them in the domain Bacteria (OpenStax, 2018). Despite being small and simple in structure, bacteria play a major role in ecosystems, human health, and the environment. Some bacteria, like Mycoplasma, do not have a cell wall but are still considered bacteria because they are prokaryotic, have similar DNA and ribosomes, and can reproduce independently. Get the instant assignment help. Cyanobacteria, which can perform photosynthesis like plants, are also classified as bacteria because they lack a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles (OpenStax, 2018). Overall, even when some bacteria lack certain features, they are still classified as bacteria based on cell structure, genetic makeup, and prokaryotic traits. References OpenStax. (2018). Biology 2e.
