What do you need to do?
This is an individual assignment, where you are expected to use same case study from your assignment one or two. The assignment requires you to do the following -
Develop a case study similar to the sample case study below based on your experience in assignments one and two. The case study needs to be designed so that it only needs to use the available sensors in CQU's lab, i.e., an environmental sensor and a soil moisture sensor, to design a solution.
Your developed case study should focus on improving an existing system or efficiency using IoT based solutions. Explain the requirements of your developed case study and design a solution to implement those requirements. For example, your system may need an IoT system to collect and visualize live data for informed decision making. The data visualization may have a specific aggregation or processing requirement to help managers optimize the decision-making.
After designing and planning, implement the IoT system to fulfil the requirements of your case study. Use the information you learnt in this unit to set up a LoRaWAN IoT network using MQTT as middleware. Using the available IoT sensors (Environmental sensor and moisture sensor) and gateway, interface MQTT nodes to NodeRED and use NodeRED flow to pass data to a database (local or cloud-based). For example, you may create a dashboard using Grafana to display the average air humidity level daily and generate a warning message when the value goes above or below a threshold. You need to use the data collected by CQU's environmental and soil moisture sensors.
Analyse the different parameters you can monitor using the available IoT sensors in CQU's lab. Using these parameters, what meaningful information can be provided to improve the proposed solution and fulfill the requirements of the case study?
Prepare a video featuring you sharing the screen in a total of ten (10) minutes video presentation that explains your case study, justifying your design and the implemented IoT system to fulfil the requirements. The video must show the working application. You should explain the developed case study and how data is visualised using Node-Red, Grafana, and InfluxDB, as well as the results. During your presentation, you should explain what data you are extracting from CQU's IoT sensors, and how you are pre-processing and visualising that data in your dashboard and NodeRED console.
Prepare a planning report for improvements as per specifications below.
Submit the individual report in Moodle by the above-mentioned due date.
A Sample Case Study: IoT- Based Smart Watering System for Parklands
Assume that a city council has approached you to build an IoT-based smart watering system for the city's parklands. Their purpose is to optimize water usage by remotely monitoring soil and weather conditions and accordingly making informed decisions about watering requirements to keep the grass and plants greener.
Report format and specifications -
You are required to submit a written report in a single Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) document. There is no word limit, but any unnecessary information included in the report may result in reduced marks.
The report must contain the following content (feel free to define your own sections, as long as you include all the required content):
Cover page/title page and Table of contents
Introduction
Case study analysis, which will report -
Explain the requirements of your developed case study and how the environmental and soil moisture sensors can be used in your developed case study to address the requirements.
Suggest the collection of three (3) new sensor data elements (other than data already collected) that could be helpful to do further business improvement for your case.
The step-by-step process of your designed smart IoT system development and justification for the entire system in the context of your case study requirements.
Link to the recorded video as detailed above.
Difficulties you faced
What are the difficulties you have faced during the deployment and data collection of the IoT system for your case study?
How did you address those difficulties?
