Task description:
This is a group assignment, and the lecturer will create and finalise assignment groups by the end of week 4 (around 5 members in each group). Group members shall work together to prepare a report covering all aspects required by the assignment.
Suggested steps:
Each group shall identify a problem (only one problem having behavioural implications) in an organisation that they have access to (preferably an organisation where at least one group member works or has worked recently). You must not focus on a problem that has already been solved and must not choose an organisation that is no longer in business.
Provide a brief introduction to the organisation that you have selected for this project (it is acceptable to withhold the name of the organisation).
Describe the problem, as much as possible in terms of the observable or measurable symptoms it manifests, for example: too much organisational politics; high employee absenteeism and turnover; deterioration of service quality; increased customer complaints; negative google review, dysfunctional groups/teams; loss of profit; unhelpful organisational culture, stressful job, work-life imbalance etc.
The issue/problem should then be considered and analysed in terms of concepts/ models/ theories drawn from any two OB topics (you cannot use two different concepts/models from the same topic). Try to choose the topics that seem to offer the most useful insights into the problem. Do not try to deal with many models or concepts. You must not select non-OB topics.
Design an intervention (a change program or set of activities and procedures) utilising some aspect or aspects of your analysis. The intervention should be intended to solve or improve the situation. Please note you are not merely being asked for a list of recommendations.
