Individuals of the peppered moth (Biston betularia) exhibit two color morphs, a light morph and a dark morph. In contemporary populations, the light morph occurs at higher frequency than the dark morph. It has been hypothesized that the dark morph had a selective advantage over the light morph during the industrial revolution, due to pollution leading to darker tree bark of trees in the forests of England. It was predicted that when resting on the darker bark tree, the dark morph is less conspicuousto predators than the light.

b) How can museum collections of peppered moths help to find evidence whether the dark morph had a selective advantage during the industrial revolution but not before and after?
