Task Description:
Work in groups to design a week-long program that promotes health and wellbeing in children. Consider environmental allergens, devise risk minimisation strategies and discuss the processes and policies in regard to coping with children with allergies in the class environment. The relevant regulations and frameworks will need to be referred to. Take into account what the EYLF states about educators using a variety of strategies to collect, document, organise, synthesis and interpret the information that they gather to implement strategies around health and well-being. Provide a rationale that is supported by educational research for addressing environmental allergens and device strategies to minimise risk to sick children in the early childhood setting. There are six (6) main types of allergies that you can explore in your program - you may choose one (1) of them or all six (6) of them, each of them are listed below:
- Milk
- Eggs
- Peanuts
- Tree nuts
- Wheat
- Soy.
You may choose another allergen that is not on this list that may also be relevant to the early childhood education setting. Devise strategies that minimise allergy exposure in early childhood settings. You may refer to a range of strategies to address this aspect of the assessment task. Students will need to justify their choices in relation to an early childhood setting and include them in their program. For example, students may choose to discuss any of the following:
Parents to label food and drinks with labels for children with allergies;
Appropriate cleaning before and after meals
Appropriate cleaning of utensils
Avoid food sharing in kids who have allergies
Ongoing training and education for educators
Other aspects can also be discussed to address this aspect of the assessment
Other aspects can also be discussed to address this aspect of the assessment
Address each of the following aspects in relation to health and well-being in children of early years, this includes:
Environmental allergens likely to encounter in an early childhood setting;
Devise strategies that minimise allergy exposure in a class environment;
Refer to any regulatory or frameworks to support their strategies.
Design a week-long program and collect information from various sources to complete it. Students can use any activities to support their program and should take into account what the EYLF states about educators using a variety of strategies to collect, document, organise, synthesis and interpret the information that they gather to implement strategies around health and well-being.
Draw on a range of relevant academic literature, policy documents and learning frameworks to support your explanation.
