Question
Project design implement and evaluate a return-to-work program for one of these injured workers:
Explain how you would manage the compensation claim and then
- warehouse assistant who had suffered torn muscles in their lower back, severe muscle strain in their neck and shoulders and a broken toe, caused when they attempted to lift a heavy object from the floor then dropped it on their foot
- computer operator who was suffering chronic back and neck pain and severe pain in both hands, caused by working at their workstation
- a saw mill operator who suffered severe internal injuries, which required abdominal surgery, caused when a piece of timber kicked back from the saw and hit them in the abdomen
The prognosis for each is that they should be able to return to modified duties after three weeks rest and should make a full recovery and be able to resume their normal duties after six months.
Your report should be presented under these headings:
- Managing the claim-explain how you would process and manage the worker's claim for workers' compensation, demonstrating how your plans comply with workers' compensation legislation and insurance requirements
- Designing and implementing a rehabilitation/ return-to-work program:
- show how you would design a return-to-work program, detailing all consultations required and the reasons why those consultations are important
- explain any modifications which would be required to the workplace or work processes and any retraining which the worker might need
- Monitoring and evaluating the return-to-work program-show how you would monitor and evaluate the success of the program in relation to its objectives, and identify procedures for recommending changes which would improve safety and return-to-work programs
