What are your thoughts on the content of this discussion below as it relates to perception. Do you agree or disagree? Why

This person illustrates how visual information is processed in the brain; they choose one of the other senses and summarize how its sensory information is organized into a perceptual and recognizable pattern. This person will also discuss how cultural and societal expectations and/or experiences influence the formation of the perception. This person also viewed the Clive Wearing video. Whereas Clive Wearing memory for most everything is virtually nonexistent, it is evident that Clive Wearing can still identify his wife's face. This person will discuss how this might be explained according to face perception theories.

This is their discussion:

The light induced activity of one cell influences the activity of its neighboring cells by means of connecting neurons called ganglion cells. The ganglion cells can increase or decrease the activity of the neighboring cells. The resulting pattern of stimulation is coded into the first useful representations of spots, edges, contours, movement and color (WhitmanD.COGNITION.2011).

We are constantly using the process of perception. The way we perceive things is important to our communication with others because our perceptions of people affect the way we communicate with them. Perception affects us in infancy and continues as we age, forming a part of our identities. Expectations also significantly affect body image perception, especially in women. In order to communicate more effectively, people could do with learning how to not let their expectations obscure their perceptions.

Recognition of an object occurs when the stored representation of an object best fits the Geon based information. Face recognition starts with the visual encoding of the features of a face, meaning that one is able to identify a face viewed from any angle through its features as identified in their model for face recognition. Whilst cognitive and behavioral processes are involved for face and object recognition, and said processes vary greatly between the two, there are also important neural processes involved in face and object recognition. Particularly the role of the Fusiform face area for face recognition and the role of the infer temporal cortex for object recognition.
