Assignment Task -

For this task, you are to research and deliver a presentation that describes the General Construction industry including relevant standards and specifications, legislation, regulations and codes of practice applicable to workplace operations.

Instructions: You will work as a group to conduct the research for this presentation. You may split up tasks to ensure that you cover all the topics below. Make sure that you do this fairly.

Although you will be working as a group you will be assessed as an individual. You must contribute effectively to the task but provide your own individual verbal report on the following:

In your presentation, you are to:

Identify the scope and nature of the General Construction industry functions and activities.

Profile of the General Construction industry in terms of job roles/trades and direct and indirect employment (minimum of 5) and national economic importance.

Discuss safe work methods and practices used in this industry.

Identify and clarify the General Construction employment conditions including:

• Australian Workplace Agreements
• Bulletins and newsletters
• Enterprise agreements
• Industrial awards
• Industry / workplace codes of practice
• Workplace agreements

Identify the environmental regulations and issues that are relevant to the construction industry (resource use/waste management and opportunities for efficiency/environmental hazards).

Discuss consequences for breaching these regulations.

You may want to prepare cue cards or pictures to support your presentation. While you each have to do an individual presentation, you may want to conduct your research in a group.

You will have 10 - 15 minutes to conduct your presentation.

You must also submit your presentation notes. Include the names of those in your group who contributed.
