Cameron is a recent graduate who has completed a residency program at a major medical centre. When asked where he wanted to work, he always said, "Anywhere. I love every clinical area of nursing!" On his days off, he frequently talks with his university colleagues who are in various fields external to health care. He makes small, regular investments in mutual funds, which he monitors himself. He also spends a good deal of time and money investing in research about technology; in fact, most of his unit colleagues ask him about their personal planned purchases. He often is involved in a beta test related to some new Web service. Cameron's reading includes many high-tech publications. He always has the "latest and best" information about anticipated events that will affect nursing, health care, and technology.

Cameron is now considering what he should do in the second year of his career. He is aware that many nurses wait until later in life to return to school and that numerous careers require additional education.

Questions:

1. Describe what Cameron should consider about predictions for the future and how they might or might not affect his next course of action. Consider both clinical and role options that might be available to him.

2. Is he connected with important information? On the basis of his interests, what career options should he consider?
