The Cycle of Anger
Assignment:
1. An outburst of aggression often starts with a triggering event. Prior to the event, the individual is at baseline.
2. Crisis may have been brewing for sometime, and a certain event or series of events can cause the threshold of a person's self control to become overwhelmed.
3. As an individual goes through this cycle and becomes more agitated, the areas of their brains that mediate basic emotion, or the "old-brain" takes over.
4. Often fight of flight are the two most basic responses of an angry individual.
5. Anger can arouse both verbal and physical actions and these words and actions can feed on themselves, keeping a person within their cycle of anger.
6. At the most heightened part of the anger cycle, a person may have flown into the cycle of "rage."
7. In your essay, describe each of the different phases of the anger cycle as described in your text, starting with baseline, and moving to what is called "100," per your course text.
8. Give an example of what each of these phases might look like in "real-life."
9. Describe at least two inhibitors that might keep a person from moving further into the cycle of violence.
