Many information system projects fail because the system wasn't built correctly or the project wasn't managed or mismanaged. The biggest problems with IT projects: It takes too long to build systems and they often do not work as intended. Of course, this is not always true, but building systems is difficult and labor intensive. This lesson provided an introduction to five project management objectives: scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. What's most important is that information technology projects should be treated the same as any other business project-installing a new production line or designing and building a major advertising and sales campaign.

Assignment: What are the objectives of project management and why is it so essential in developing information systems.

1. Describe information system problems resulting from poor project management.

2. Define project management.

3. List and describe the project management activities and variables addressed by project management.

Your response should be a 1-2 page topic paper (Minimum 250 words), using Microsoft Word document, double spaced, and in 12 point Times New Roman font. Include a title page with your name, course and section numbers, and date. (It is suggested that you download and use the APA Template and writing guidelines in the "Instructor and Course Requirements" page.) Your paper will be graded on the strength of your argument/explanations, as well as the professionalism of your writing (grammar, punctuation, spelling, cohesive sentences and paragraphs, etc.)
