Lou Thao is a 43-year-old Vietnamese American male who is on the medical-surgical unit for recovery following colon resection that resulted in a temporary colostomy without complications. It is currently 1930, at which time Mr. Thao is experiencing significant pain at the incision site. As pain stabilizes, the colostomy bag begins to leak.
