Part I: It is important for healthcare providers to be able to review articles related to microbiology, among other fields. In this problem, you will continue to explore the resources provided by the American Society of Microbiology. This organization provides articles, webinars, podcasts, and a number of resources related to the field of microbiology.
For this problem, you will:
Review the following article from the American Society of Microbiology:
1. American Society for Microbiology. (2019, November 8). Disappearance of the human microbiota: how we are losing our oldest allies.
2. Then, summarize the major points of the article. Your summary should discuss the importance of the human microbiota, a discussion of some of the lifestyle factors that affect microbial diversity, and some of the ways in which we can recover microbiome diversity. Please include at least five specific things you learned about the human microbiota.
3. At least 300 words. Please, include the above article on the citation page.
Part II: Microbial infections of the gastrointestinal system are the second most common cause of illnesses in the United States. These infections can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites.
Address the following criteria in your main response:
A. Choose one disease that is caused by a bacteria, virus, fungus, or parasite discussed in your textbook.
B. Describe the pathogen associated with the disease, how the pathogen leads to disease, and how it enters the body. Your discussion should also discuss the major signs and symptoms of the disease and the treatment for the infection.
C. Then, provide a case study highlighting your chosen disorder. Please do not identify the common name for the disorder in this response. Ask your peers to help you in diagnose the disease! Please ensure that you check the discussion frequently to see if your peers have reached the correct diagnosis.
